“Fluttering Surprise”

This is a 40 in. x 60in. oil painting of a goat that I met during the summer. After my family and I finished a safari drive, there was a small petting zoo area that was home to a group of exceptionally playful goats. They were such a joy to spend time with and so I chose to represent the goat’s playful nature by having him look at a butterfly resting on the bark of a tree. The goats were having so much fun running around and playing with the children, I felt that it was similar to the fluttering path of a butterfly. Of course, this similarity is not so blatantly obvious, so I felt it was appropriate to keep the butterfly rather hidden. It became more of a fluttering surprise.
