“Dancing on Jewels”

This is an oil painting on a 36in. x 48in. canvas. I came across this unfortunate crane in an abusive zoo in Pakistan. He was trapped in an inhumanly claustrophobic cage. All the other cranes were depressed and sulked in the shadows. This crane boldly spread his wings and began to dance. It may have been out of fury and anger but it was so beautiful. It touched me that a bird trapped in the most hideous conditions could muster the strength to display such a notion of passion. I wanted to give that crane a home of mysterious beauty in the strokes of my painting. Unfortunately, I later discovered that this painting is chronically wet due to using caster oil and jojoba oil as mediums. This was one of my first oil paintings so I really had no idea what I was doing.
