This is an oil painting on a slice of basswood with a diameter of 9 inches. This piece features a depressed zebra I came across in the same abusive zoo in Pakistan were I saw the crane. This zebra looked so sad in his cramped enclosure. I could feel the longing in his lowered gaze. He may have never seen Africa in his lifetime but he certainly knew that he did not belong in his current conditions. I felt moved to create this piece in respect to the zebra’s sorrow. The white fogged effect expresses his numbness to the sounds of distant children screaming in delight and repetitive clicks of cameras.
